With time and place defined as the subject of our essay, we must now fine tune their connectedness to our writings. Readers expect that certain types of stories will follow somewhat a particular formula inherent in a genre. Let me say that again with more force. Readers demand that certain genres follow dedicated, buyer formulas. These “formulas” are what they want to read, feel, experience–what they will continue to buy. It is our job to make each formula a new, engulfing experience with fresh characters and story twists to keep those readers reaching for more. With this in mind it is crucial for us to deliver the myth of the genre without losing credibility of possibility.
